Epilepsy and Rescue Medication (Group course)

Course Description:  Full Day Course or 3 Hour Refresher available 

Did you know that 1 in 100 people have epilepsy across the UK? Around 60 million people worldwide? These statistics change for people with learning disabilities, people with a learning disability, 1 in 3 will have epilepsy (mild to moderate). This course is designed to build staff confidence when supporting someone who has epilepsy. This course will also cover the use of buccal rescue medication including a practical demonstration.

Objectives:

  • Demonstrate an understanding of epilepsy and the different seizure types
  • Raise awareness of the impact of epilepsy on a person’s life
  • Understand the need for balancing risk and achieving a quality of life
  • Understand the importance of having a seizure management plan
  • recognise prolonged and serial seizures, and respond appropriately
  • Be able to describe the procedure for giving buccal / nasal Midazolam
